The Greek island of Ios was the last stop on the first backpacking trip I ever took, way back in 2008. It might be known for its pub-lined streets and party-atmosphere, but Ios has a lot more to offer for those who are willing to look beyond the main town.
I stayed at one of the island’s most well-known hostels – Francesco’s – set on the cliffside above the town. This was a great base for exploring the island and getting away from the boozy-crowds, but stills within easy walking distance of all the pubs and clubs for nights out.
As well as having an amazing location and super friendly staff, Francesco’s has this incredible view to enjoy with your coffee every morning. The man in the picture is Francesco himself, taking in the sunrise view over the Aegean Sea.
I’ve heard that since I stayed there (almost 10 years ago!) they’ve expanded the terrace area and have a pool with breathtaking views too…this is definitely one place that is on my “visit-again” bucket list!
