What’s the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? 

Prior to visiting in June last year, my impression of the city had been largely based on the highly-photographed Petronas Towers – the 451.9m tall, futuristic twin-structures that dominate KL’s skyline. I’d heard it was a great place for shopping (which isn’t really my thing) as well as being home to some delicious street food (definitely more my thing!) – thanks to the city’s diverse mix of Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western cultures. A Quick Guide to Balian Beach: Bali

Spectacular sunsets, quirky locals and some of the island’s best surfing action, Balian Beach, on the South West coast of Bali, is the perfect escape from the tourist traps of the main towns. With only a handful of accommodations and places to eat or drink, hardcore partiers will be disappointed but, if you’re looking for an authentic, laidback Bali experience, this is the place to go. I stayed here during a Workaway placement last December and got to know this little village with its beach bars, restaurants, night market and the surrounding jungles and waterfalls. Continue reading
